about
When faced with writing a song about a childhood toy I had to pick my favorite one growing up, my Nintendo. What better way to personify that marvelous grey box than with the face of Mario himself. It was kind of a surprise to me that this song took on such a melancholy tone. That game was just so freaking frustrating! Why did I keep playing it, over and over and over again. I like to think that within that frustration is a persistence of challenge and a longing for triumph over even the seemingly simple aspects of life.
lyrics
You're running fast but then you fall
You couldn't dodge that fire ball
Do you remember just how this all began?
We go back
To the start
Once again.
Woah, Mario
Come on bro
No need to go
Outside at all today
Oh no, Mario
You're dead my friend
We'll meet again
Under 8-bit skies
Chasing princess' till no end
The red knight has lost again
I'm counting 99 time it must've been
We go back
To the start
Once again.
Woah, Mario
Come on bro
No need to go
Outside at all today
Oh no, Mario
You're dead my friend
We'll meet again
Under 8-bit skies
Woah, Mario
Come on bro
No need to go
Outside at all to play
Oh no, Mario
You're dead my friend
We'll meet again
Under 8-bit skies
Under 8-bit skies
Under 8-bit skies
You're not so super, super Mario
You're not so super, super Mario
You're not so super, Mario.
